Social Action Film Series presents ‘13th’
Friday, June 2, 7:30 p.m., Assembly Room
In this thought-provoking 2016 Netflix documentary, scholars, activists, and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S. prison boom. Directed by Ava DuVernay, this 100-minute film is rated TV-MA. “13th” is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery (unless as punishment for a crime). Co-sponsored by the Social Responsibilities Council of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palisades Racial and Social Justice Team. Doors open at 7, and refreshments are served. We welcome your financial contributions to support the Social Action Film Series.
