The Central Unitarian Church Social Action Committee presents  the documentary “13th” on Friday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m.

In this thought-provoking 2016 Netflix documentary, scholars, activists, and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S. prison boom. Directed by Ava DuVernay, this 100-minute film is rated TV-MA. “13th” is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery (unless as punishment for a crime).

The presentation is co-sponsored by the Social Responsibilities Council of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palisades Racial and Social Justice Team.

Doors open at 7 o’clock and refreshments are served. Donations are welcome.
