January 24: Stop Your Complaining!

‘Stop Your Complaining!’
Sunday, January 24, 10:30 a.m., Sanctuary
How many times have we said or been told “stop your complaining!” This rebuke sounds harsh, but there’s a positive message within it. Today we introduce the Complaint-Free World campaign, inspired by the words of Maya Angelou “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” The campaign envisions “a day when people focus on and speak about what they desire things to be rather than complaining about how things are.” Both the story and sermon discuss the ways we can resist the culture of complaint that is endemic in our personal lives, workplaces, church, and the larger society and adapt a language of positivity and purpose.
David Horst, Minister; Robin Slaw, Director of Lifespan Faith Development; Matt Anderson, Director of Music; and Myra Aaronson, Worship Associate, lead the service. Robin’s story is “It Could Be Worse,” and the sermon topic is “Stop Your Complaining!”
Following the story Robin and the pre-K to grade 5 children and parents or caretakers gather for Family Worship in the Assembly Room. Grades 6/7 and 7/8 classes meet as scheduled.
