October 11: Blessing of the Animals

This Sunday morning, October 11, at 10:30 we welcome all furry, feathery, finny, and slithery pets and their human companions to our annual Blessing of the Animals. The blessing takes place in the Courtyard, weather permitting, or in the Sanctuary. Robin Slaw, Director of Lifespan Faith Development; Matt Anderson, Director of Music; and Charlie O’Reilly, Worship Associate; and David Horst, Minister, lead the service with Heather Troyer and Denise Corsi Hernandez, Church Members, assisting with the animal blessings. Dogs must be leashed and, if required, muzzled. Smaller animals should be carried in kennels or cages or held securely. You’re welcome to bring pictures of your deceased pets to be remembered.

Jeff Merrigan and Pam Zeldin are the Welcome Hosts. The story is “Once There Was a Free Bird” and the reflection topic is “All God’s Creatures.” Matt and members of the House Band lead our singing and a rendition of “If I Could Talk to the Animals.” Susie Choi and Brian Leddy host Coffee Hour, served this week in the Kitchen Annex.

Children in pre-K to grade 5, the grade 8 and 9 Coming of Age class, and high school youth participate in this multigenerational worship service. The grade 6 and 7 students depart for class following the beginning of the service.
