United Nations Sunday ~ ‘Gaia Weeps’

Pope Francis has put climate change front and center on the religious agenda, the United Nations World Climate Summit in Paris is coming up at the end of November, and the science on global climate change is well established. In our annual UN Sunday service, let’s find ways to understand and respond to climate change informed by our religious faith as well as science in the context of our monthly theme, Letting Go. We’ll also learn about the UN’s new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Robin Slaw, Director of Lifespan Faith Development; Matt Anderson, Director of Music; Arthur Eves, Worship Associate; and I lead the service. Music provided by the Adult Choir conducted by René Galván. The UN Sunday service is sponsored by the Women’s Alliance, Central Unitarian’s envoy to the Unitarian Universalist UN Office.

Jeff Merrigan and Pam Zeldin are the Welcome Hosts. The story is “We Got Here Together” and the sermon topic is “Gaia Weeps.” The choir sings “Songs for Mother Earth,” “Let Me Be Still,” andOh, How Beautiful this Finely Woven Earth.  The Outreach Auction Committee hosts Coffee Hour.
