Three-day Rummage Sale at Central Unitarian in Paramus opens on October 13, offering a wide variety of goods at low prices
Central Unitarian Church in Paramus invites the community to its annual three-day Rummage Sale on October 13, 14, and 15. Shopping hours are Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free.
The church sanctuary is filled wall-to-wall with a wide variety of low-cost goods. Items include clothing for all ages and seasons, household items, small appliances, toys, books, games, furniture, lamps, jewelry, linens and bedding, sporting goods, tools, knickknacks, holiday decor, and much more at low prices. The “Boutique and Beyond” section features new or gently used clothing, collectables, art, and antiques.
The Rummage Sale, attracting customers from Bergen County and North Jersey, has been an annual event since the church opened its doors in Paramus in 1956.

Q: When is Rummage Sale week?
A: Set up days are Sunday afternoon, October 9, through Wednesday, October 12. Sale days are Thursday and Friday, October 13 and 14, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, October 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free.
Q: When can I drop off donations?
A: Bring donations from noon, Sunday, October 9, until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 11. WE CANNOT ACCEPT DONATIONS ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12. Start putting things aside now.
Q: What items cannot be accepted as donations?
A: Please do not donate any of the following items:
Bed pillows or mattresses of any size
Desktop computers or components
Cribs more than three years old
Encyclopedias and textbooks
Food and cosmetics
Large upholstered furniture
Metal office desks
Plastic containers including Rubbermaid, Glad, Ziploc, and deli containers
Printers and fax machines
Shoes, boots, sneakers unless new or nearly new
Old skis and ice skates
Stuffed animals unless new
TVs other than flat screen
VHS tapes and mini-cassette tapes
Walkers and jumpy seats for infants
Wireless home phones
Many of these items pose safety, environmental, and recycling restrictions and infestation risks.
Q: Can I get a tax receipt?
A: Yes. They are available when requested.
Q: What is the Boutique and Beyond section of the Rummage Sale?
A: The Boutique and Beyond is a separate section containing new and gently used merchandise (clothes, gift items, jewelry, art, etc.). priced higher than general merchandise.
Q: How do I pay for things?
A: Cash or check. Proper ID required for non-Central Unitarian Church people.
Q: When are things reduced to half price?
A: Friday morning. There are additional markdowns and giveaways on Saturday.
Q: What and when is the Bag Sale?
A: The Bag Sale starts on Friday at 3 p.m. Supermarket bags are provided to customers to fill with soft goods, books, toys. Each bag costs $3. Larger items will continue to be sold at half price.
Q: Can non-church members work at the Rummage Sale?
A: For the most part, no. Sometimes family members come in to help or a close personal friend comes in to work at the same time as a member. But, from a security standpoint, we expect the volunteers to be those who attend Central Unitarian regularly.
Q: Can non-church people purchase anything before Thursday?
A: Large items in front of the building may be purchased prior to the public sale. If buyers must return to pick them up, they must pay the full price to hold it. We will mark the item PAID, with the purchaser’s name, phone, and day of pickup marked. No refunds.
Q: Can I return something?
A: No. All sales are final.
