UU Relief Group of Bergen County
The Bergen Unitarian Universalist Relief Group (BUURG) is a group formed by
- The Unitarian Universalist Society of the Palisades
- The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood
- The Central Unitarian Church
BUURG focuses the time, talent, and treasure of the societies in providing aid and relief to Bergen County, originally after Superstorm Sandy, but with the intention of being a permanent part of Bergen County disaster-relief community.
After Sandy, BUURG provided support for three organizations: the Moonachie/Little Ferry Relief Fund (MLFRF), the Center for Food Action, and the Compassion Fund of Bergen County’s United Way. BUURG’s members, individually and in teams, worked closely with the Bergen County Long-Term Recovery Committee (L-TRC) and MLFRF to provide “feet on the street” in both towns. We were represented in the L-TRC and are still a member organization of the Bergen VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster), which will be the sponsoring group for any future L-TRC in the county.
