Rev. David M. Horst
The Rev. David M. Horst, Minister, brings more than 30 years’ experience in congregational and transitional ministry, arts administration, community service, pastoral care, program development and public relations to his ministry at Central Unitarian Church.
He holds a Masters of Divinity degree from the Harvard Divinity School and began work as a religious educator in West Roxbury and Boston, Massachusetts. He remains committed to lifespan faith development and works to create opportunities for congregants of all ages to learn, to do justice, and to grow in religious knowledge and depth.
Since his ordination, he has served four Unitarian Universalist congregations, most recently as interim minister with the Unitarian Universalist congregation in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
David characterizes his approach as a “ministry of hospitality.” Hospitality begins with a warm and welcoming Sunday worship and religious education program, but hospitality extends to all aspects of congregational life within the church walls and in the larger community. A ministry of hospitality is both a religious orientation and programmatic vision.
On Sunday mornings, he integrates music, readings, stories, the sermon, and prayers into a coherent worship experience that satisfies the intellectual, emotional, and religious interests of theologically diverse, multi-generational congregations. He preaches on political and social justice issues, science, the arts, constructive theology, religious education, world religions, food and hospitality, women’s, immigrant, and LGBT rights and much more — always through the liberal religious lens.
David’s office hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
